The terminal
agent reads this information when it is safe to do so. It is only
safe for the terminal agent to read the MCT values when it can be
determined that there are no other pending operations to the
printer. Currently, the terminal agent reads the MCT data in two
locations 1) following an application read of any printer station
when the 4610 read status indicates there are no pending print
operations and 2) following an application tclose. Also, the
terminal agent restricts itself from reading the 4610 statistics so
that it reads it only after a certain amount of time has elapsed.
The minimum time is 60 seconds normally and 3 seconds when print
monitoring is active.
There is a 4610
statistics event message that is automatically sent to the
controller. In order to minimize message size, the message is
formulated so that only values that have changed are sent. The
terminal agent, therefore, tracks what it knows it’s already sent
to the controller agent.
